Woman falsely claimed £7,000 benefit

A WOMAN who falsely obtained benefit totalling £7,000 by failing to declare that she was living with a partner was been placed under a curfew and ordered to repay the money by Warrington magistrates.
Gemma Ritchie, 28, of Plymouth Close, Runcorn admitted the offence.
She claimed benefits as a single person from the borough council and from the Department of Work and Pensions.
The woman was also ordered to pay £75 costs. The 7pm-7am curfew will last for 10 weeks.
In a similar case at Halton Magistrates’ Court, Denise Harding, 42, of St Stephens Avenue, pleaded guilty to failing to declare her partner was living with her.
She claimed housing and council tax benefits and income support worth £22,000 as a single person from the council and DWP.
Harding was sentenced to 300 hours unpaid work to be carried out over 12 months and ordered to pay £200 costs.

  1. these people are cheating lying scroats. Costing us honest tax payers a fortune

    but compare the recent news that there is 13 trillion (one trillion is 1,000 billion!!!) pounds of cash world wide stuffed in dodgy Tax free havens, then benefit fraud is quite a small tip of a massive wordwide money scrounging iceberg.

    Get after the rich tax dodgers first and we could actually bail ourselves out of this economic mess….
