Carnival moves to drier land

WARRINGTON’S monsoon weather has forced the town’s annual youth carnival to switch locations – even though it’s still a week away.
The carnival, which takes place next Saturday, July 14 has been moved from Bank Park to Queen’s Gardens so activities can take place on a hard surface and spectators have a better chance of staying mud-free.
Even so, organisers are recommending wellies and umbrellas.
A borough council spokeswoman said: “Although we do not yet know if the sun will shine on the day, the ground is waterlogged and the move is to ensure the health and safety of event goers and to prevent damage to the Town Hall lawns.
“All activities and bands from Bank Park will be accommodated as part of this contingency plan and other town centre stages are unaffected.”
The carnival will start at 12 noon and continue until 7.30pm.
Other events – including the Warrington Music Festival – will go on as planned at Golden Square, Warrington Market and the Youth Café.
