Planners delay warehouse decision

PLANNING bosses at Warrington are to the visit the site of a proposed distribution warehouse before deciding if it can go ahead.
The development by bakery giants Warburton would create 90 jobs at the Barleycastle Trading Estate, in Lyncastle Road, Appleton.
But there have been strong objections from Appleton Parish Council, from borough councillor Peter Walker and from five nearby residents.
They claim the site is greenfield land – a barrier between the trading estate and nearby homes – and that the development create noise and light pollution, damage to the environment and to nearby, important Listed buildings.
The bakery chain wants to build a storage and distribution warehouse, with 39 delivery van parking spaces, 60 car parking spaces and three disabled parking space.
There would be a covered cycle store, docking facilities for heavy lorries and delivery vans, refuelling and vehicle wash/maintenance areas and manoeuvring areas.
Warburton’s say the proposal would form a key part of their distribution system.
At its nearest point, the warehouse would be 15.8 metres from a dwelling at Yew Tree Barn.
Objectors say increased traffic would place a further strain on already busy roads. It would be difficult for nearby residents to enjoy gardens and other outside space because of the noise, vibration and general disturbance caused by the company’s operations.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved because the site is suitable for such development, subject to conditions to limit its impact on the area.
