Counselling centre hits a snag

PLANS to open a counselling centre have hit a snag – neighbours and local councillors have lodged objections.
As a result, planning chiefs have decided to visit the site in Warrington Road, Culcheth before deciding if the scheme can go ahead.
Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, local borough councillor Chris Vobe and four nearby residents are opposed to the scheme.
The plan involves changing the use of a dwelling to provide two consulting rooms.
There would be no external alterations to the building and opening hours would be restricted to 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday-Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
The building has now off-street parking, but six spaces would be provided within the Thai Paragon restaurant car park nearby.
A similar previous application was turned down because of a lack of parking space
The parish council argues that the development would be outside the village centre and the proposal would increase incidents on a dangerous section of the A574.

  1. How shortsighted are these objections! Like LFA I expect in these difficult times that sooner rather than later these same objectors – including the local Councillor – will be asking for support for such a centre. It’s depressing enough that these places are required but surely this kind of initiative ought to be supported.
