A SPECIAL event to raise awareness of the town’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community is being held in Warrington.
Warrington Borough Council is supporting the first “Pride” event to be held in the borough and everyone is invited to join in the celebration on Saturday September 29.
It is being organised by LGBT Warrington (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) in partnership with the LGF (Lesbian Gay Foundation), the council, Golden Gates Housing Trust, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cheshire Police.
It aims to celebrate the diversity of the town and raise people’s awareness of the LGBT community which is active and thriving in Warrington. Everyone is welcome, including families with children, and there will be lots of fun and family entertainment.
Events will be held between 12noon and 5.30pm in Queen’s Gardens, Warrington. There will be a parade, entertainment from local singers and dancers and family entertainment including balloon artist, face painting, bouncy assault course and fairground attraction.
There will also be information stalls supporting partner organisations and the event will end with a vigil.
Cllr Hitesh Patel, (pictured) executive board member for personnel and communications, said: “As lead member for equality and diversity at the council I am very happy to show our support for the first Pride event for Warrington and I know everyone involved is working very hard to deliver a great event with lots of family entertainment.
“We hope many people will come along in support and to celebrate what will be a day to remember.”

  1. How can the council support this as part of their equalities programme when events like this are staged to suggest that the gay community is something special and more equal than others.

Would a Straight Pride Day get the same support?

  2. The difference between gay and straight people is straight people never got tortured, or killed for expressing their sexuality in public. Gay people have and still are fighting to get equal rights!

  3. Why should anyone, straight or gay, need to express their sexuality in public and force the rest of us to observe and then be expected to tolerate? Surely the place for this is in private? A little more modesty and restraint by all would make the country a better place.
