Elder abuse awareness success

WARRINGTON’S special day to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day has been hailed as a great success.
Stalls around the town centre raised awareness and offered information and advice to residents.
Staff at the stalls were busy all day, giving out information and discussing with the public how the safeguarding services offer protection to vulnerable adults through adult social care, health services, the police or trading standards.
Representatives from the council’s safeguarding team, domestic abuse service and Older People’s Engagement Group handed out purple ribbons to symbolise the worldwide event.
Cllr Pat Wright, the borough council’s executive member for health, wellbeing and adult services said: “It was great to interact with residents in the town and chat to them, raising awareness of what the day was about.
“Events such as these are crucial so people take notice of the safety of elderly and vulnerable residents in the town.”

  1. Need to practice what they preach. The Budget for elderly and vulnerable residents is being cut when it really ought to at least be left alone. With an ageing population perhaps OUR Council could review this service and provide more funding not less.
