DETECTIVES have stepped up their hunt for two men who carried out an armed robbery at a Warrington bank.
They have renewed an appeal for information following the raid at the NatWest Bank in London Road, Stockton Heath, on Friday June 1.
Police have praised the public for the co-operation they have already given – but believe there may still be people who saw something significant but have not yet come forward.
The two men, one armed with a sledgehammer, forced their way into the premises and stole a quantity of cash before fleeing the scene in a black Volvo. The Volvo was later found abandoned nearby.
Officers were on the scene within minutes and a helicopter was used to help officers try and trace the offenders.
A number of lines of enquiry are currently being explored by officers including CCTV enquiries and forensic tests.
No arrests have been made at this stage but the investigation is continuing.
DC Gareth Yates, of Warrington CID, said: “We would like to thank those who have already come forward and assisted us with our enquiries.
“However we still need anyone who witnessed what happened and have not yet come forward to get in touch as they may hold vital information.
“This incident took place in the afternoon in a busy area and we are aware that many who sat watching the incident unfold may have been recording the events on mobile phones.
“People may have relevant footage that could help us to identify the offenders and we would urge them to come forward as this footage could greatly assist with our enquiries.
“We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have any information regarding the identity of the offenders or may have seen another suspicious vehicle parked in the alleyway at the back of Dundonald Avenue around the time of the incident.”
The two offenders are believed to be aged between 25-30 years-old and were dressed in dark clothing. The first man was carrying a sledgehammer and the second man was wearing a dark baseball cap and had pink fish net tights over his face.
Anyone with an information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
