Patriotic town's 81 street parties

A TOTAL of 81 Diamond Jubilee street parties are to be held in Warrington – one of the highest totals for any town or city in the North West.
More than 15,000 people will be involved in the parties – meaning the town will be bursting with bunting, tea, cake and whole lot more.
Town Hall chiefs are delighted to have received so many requests for local street parties.
As a result the council has decided to reschedule its own giant town centre party – originally planned for the same weekend – to Saturday, June 9 so that people could enjoy both events.
Excited residents are gearing up for what will be a jam-packed day of celebrations, with everything from fancy dress to magicians to donkey rides taking place all over the town.
Neighbourhoods will be buzzing with activity, with picnic lunches, sporting events, hot pot suppers, bingo and charity cake sales.
Some will be serving traditional English tea while others are gathering for a giant musical bash.
As well as the dozens of street parties and barbecues, there are also some unusual celebrations taking place with wizardry events and body zorbing.
All sorts of groups are planning special events… children’s centres, residential care homes, community day care services, the Youth Café, schools, sports clubs and Walton Hall and many more.
Cllr Terry O’Neill (pictured), leader of the council said: “Warrington’s response to the Jubilee has been tremendous and we are so proud that so many people are taking the time and effort to come together and celebrate this historic event. “Neighbours, family, and friends will congregate and celebrate in style at what looks to be a spectacular day for Warrington.”
The June 9 town centre extravaganza will include wartime Spitfire aircraft, a parade of giant queens and much more. More details are on the council website www.warrington.gov.uk
The Westminster Foundation donated funding throughout Cheshire towards the cost of Jubilee events, £10,000 of which is helping to pay for events in Warrington.

  1. 81 official ones maybe but the number will definately be VERY much higher over the Jubilee weekend as not everyone has asked for permision or had to 😉

Warrington will be ‘rockin’ in one way or another that’s for sure and here’s hoping that the sunshine lasts 🙂

Nice that the council rescheduled their own town centre event too so that the fun is spread out over the week too 🙂

  2. Some monarchists seem to be trying to monopolise being patriotic, – it is entirely possible to be patriotic and yet not support the monarchy.

I see the Union Flag as the flag of my country – it is not the sole preserve of monarchists, just as, despite it’s misuse, the St Georges Cross is not the sole preserve of certain right wing extremists. Neither belongs to a limited political viewpoint.

Despite my republican views – here’s hoping for decent weather.

  3. Tempting not to answer your question – the sign of a feudalist desperate to defend their position.

However, no I will not leave my country, my patriotism is not dependent on who the head of state is – how about yours?
