Olympic spirit comes to town

WARRINGTON families joined in the build-up to the London Olympics at a “Running Rings” activity morning Risley Moss Local Nature Reserve.
Entrants young and old took on routes around the nature reserve ranging from a couple of hundred metres to a mile, and collected certificates for their running and walking achievements.
The event was opened by Helen Jones, MP for Warrington North, and formed part of The Mersey Forest’s “Running Rings” project to help people get active and enjoy nature in the build-up to the Games.
The morning was co-organised by Warrington Borough Council and local running club Spectrum Striders.
The “Running Rings” project has been awarded the official London 2012 Inspire Mark, with two further activity mornings also scheduled at Risley Moss for Saturday June 16 and Saturday July 7.
Helen Jones said: “With the torch relay visiting Warrington later this month, it’s an exciting time for the town. It was great to see such a range of people getting involved, and who knows, perhaps one of them will go on to star for Team GB at the next Games.”
