A TEAM of 34 runners from Warrington Disability Partnership raised more than £5,000 for the charity by taking part in the BUPA 10k run in Manchester.
Bolstered by huge crowds of supporters who gathered at landmarks along the route the runners were cheered along to the finishing line.
Runner Alison Crossley said: “I was ready to give up around Trafford Park but then I spotted a team of WDP supporters waving banners and cheering. They gave me the boost I needed to spur me on to the end.”
Tommy Hammond, who co-ordinated Team WDP’s efforts, completed the run in less than an hour.
He said: “The atmosphere was electric and the weather was just perfect. The feeling of making it to the finishing line and knowing we were raising funds for such a good cause was amazing”.
The team passed on their thanks to Andrew Donaldson from Big Storage who sponsored “Team WDP” running vests.
The money raised will go towards a range of unfunded WDP projects that provide valuable independent living services offered to 34,000 disabled people living in Warrington, such as the Wizard narrow boat that provides day trips on the Bridgewater Canal.
