A WOMAN received more than £17,500 benefit to which she was not entitled, magistrates were told at Warrington.
Janene Williams aged 34 of Hampson Avenue, Culcheth pleaded guilty to three benefit fraud offences.
She was ordered to repay the money, along with £150 costs and given a 12-month community order, consisting of 200 hours unpaid work.
The court was told the woman was overpaid a total of more than £17,500 between March 2007 and May 2010 after failing to notify the borough council that she was living with her partner who was in full time employment.
This was made up of £14,675.94 housing benefit and £2,841.48 council tax benefit.
After the hearing, Adrian Webster, the council’s benefits manager, said: “All benefit theft is crime. There are no exceptions and that is why the council is determined to bring fraudsters to justice.”
