45 casualties on a Red Route

A TOTAL of 45 serious injury or fatal accidents over the last three years has resulted in a busy Warrington road being designated a “Red Route”.
Knutsford Road is the seventh road in the borough to be so designated.
Red Routes are roads that carry a high level of risk of death of serious injury – not because of the roads themselves but rather their users.
Special “Red Route” signs have been erected along the road – part of the A5061.
Other Red Routes in the borough – with the number of casualties over three years – are: Kingsway North and South (39), Longford Street, Marsh House Lane,Padgate Lane (43), Lovely Lane, Folly Lane, Kerfoot Street(43), Manchester Road, east of M6 (16), Manchester Road, west of M6 (37) Myddleton Lane, Southworth Lane, Smithy Brow, Lord Street, Mustard Lane, Wigshaw Lane (30).
Red Routes are identified by the borough council’s road safety team, based on detailed analysis of collision and casualty data.
They are clearly marked with the special signs which warn drivers to extra care.

  1. Local residents have complained for years about Knutsford Rd, but the council do nothing about it. Sticking large red signs up will NOT stop people speeding. IF the council “wanted” to improve the situation, they could.

Something physical needs changing, as the racing drivers just slow down for speed cameras or speed warnings, and then speed up again.

  2. What a total waste of money. I agree there needs to be a “physical” change to these roads since simply putting up signs – red or otherwise – does nothing to make road users take more care. Why not put up some Ivy Camoflage down the centre of these roads like we have in North East Warrington? If this is the best the road safety team can come up with I suggest that our Councillors look at saving money by getting rid of this team altogether!!!

  3. i agree – there are enough signs to look at that are more specific to driving than these.

If there is an accident tomorrow is someone going round and altering the signs – drivers would then keep looking to see when the number changed – good game, good game!! seriously tho –

no one wants to see an accident but educate drivers dont just stick a sign up.

  4. NO not more signs going up okay so you have mended the holes in the road is this your excuse,I think the next job is public toilet yes “We haven’t any” what a good idea

  5. The signs mean nothing, why. Not have

Over a 12 month period?? But yes I agree need more physical approach

And a crossing on Loushers lane for

The school kids would be a massive bonus!

  6. £250,000 to put up 20 mph signs everywhere, red route signs…. what next???? and where is all this money coming from? We have potholes everywhere that is causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars and yet they waste money like this?…… and as for “detailed analysis of collision and casualty data.”…. after they had counted the number of crashes and the number of casualties…. what did they do for the rest of the day??

  7. i agree with the crossing for loushers lane, anyone know how to get one???? and get rid of the bus stop on the corner of the road next to the church, that way you will be able to see traffic appraching in both directions!
