Green light for new homes plan

SIX detached houses can be built on the site of an existing derelict house, planners at Warrington have decided.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee have given the go-ahead for the proposal at the junction of Delenty Drive and Powell Avenue, Birchwood.
Councillors visited the site before agreeing to the proposal.
In addition to the six detached houses, three detached garages will also be built on the site.
A footpath will be provided along the Powell Avenue frontage.
A number of nearby residents lodged objections on the grounds of loss of privacy and overlooking, loss of trees and wildlife habitats and additional on-street parking.
But one residents supported the scheme because it would result in the removal of the derelict house which had been “unwanted and uncared for” for many years.
Five years ago, an application to build a 50-bed care home on the site was refused.
