A MAN is in hospital at Warrington today after being attacked by a gang as he left work.
The 39-year-old suffered multiple fractures of his cheekbones and cuts to his lips in the attack outside a parcel delivery centre in Rufford Court, Hardwick Grange, Woolston.
Four or five offenders were involved in the incident at around 6.10pm last night.
Their victim was repeatedly punched and kicked, his pockets were searched and his mobile phone, wallet, car keys and car – a black Ford Focus ST with distinctive silver stripes along its bonnet, roof and boot – were stolen
The man was taken to Warrington Hospital by ambulance. He was assessed by doctors and was expected to be transferred to the University Hospital, Aintree, Liverpool later today for specialist treatment.
DS Adam Ross said: “This was an unprovoked attack, which has left the victim with serious facial injuries. He is in a stable condition in hospital but will require further treatment for his injuries.
“We are currently following up a number of lines of enquiry in relation to the incident, including CCTV and forensic enquiries.
“We are piecing together as much information as we can about the incident and we are appealing to members of the public for assistance.”
DS Ross appealed for help from anyone who was in the area at the time and either saw what happened and saw anyone acting suspiciously.
He added: “The victim’s distinctive car was driven away from the scene and we are also appealing to anyone who might have seen the car in the Woolston area to get in touch.
“We are trying to establish the route that the car took after it fled the scene. We believe it was in the Gemini area around the petrol station near to Marks and Spencer and we are urging anyone who might have seen the car in this area to come forward.”
The offenders were all about 5ft 8 inches tall, of medium build and all were wearing balaclavas.
Anyone with any information, which might assist officers with their enquiries, is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
