WARRINGTON’S high schools have, overall, improved their performance in the GCSE and A Level league tables – with Appleton’s Bridgewater High School claiming the top spot.
Eighty per cent of Bridgewater pupils obtained five or more passes at GCSE or equivalent, A*-C, including English and Maths, while the pass rate for A Level students who obtained three or more passes was 98 per cent.
Overall, 64.3 per cent of Warrington pupils who took GCSE obtained five passes (A*-C) including English and Maths and 83.1 per cent passed five passes.
Warrington successes were in line with improvements nationally, with the town remaining above the national average.
Cllr Colin Froggatt (right), the borough council’s executive member for children and young people’s services said: “Official confirmation of our results once again show that students in Warrington have far exceeded national averages.
“These excellent results are a credit to all the hard work and determination shown by students, teaching staff, governors and parents.”
However, not all Warrington’s high schools turned in improved performances.
Judged by five GCSEs, A*-C including English and Maths, Birchwood High School had a pass rate of 61 per cent compared with 69 last year, Lysander High returned 39 per cent compared with 48 last year and William Beamont slipped from 37 per cent to 36.
