Buses safer and more efficient

WARRINGTON’S 110 buses should be safer and more fuel efficient following the launch of a new initiative.
Network Warrington has teamed up with GreenRoad to see its fleet fitted with a devise that monitors performance.
Manager director David Squire (pictured) said: “We all know that the cost of fuel has increased rapidly in recent times. In common with all bus operators we have faced this challenge by fitting technology to our fleet to monitor bus performance.
“This translates into a traffic light system in the drivers cab, giving our drivers instant information on performance and allowing them to adapt their driving style accordingly.
“Drivers are also able to access historic information on how they are driving and we have appointed mentors to assist the drivers.”
Each year the company’s buses operate four million miles carrying about nine million passengers – using about two million litres of fuel.
Recently all drivers have been given one to one training in SAFED – safe and fuel efficient driving techniques. The company hopes to see a benefit in reduced consumption, less wear and tear on vehicle components and reduced collisions.
GreenRoad provides drivers and fleet managers with real-time, comprehensive feedback, online reporting, analysis and coaching on their abilities, manoeuvres and pattern to create more fuel-efficient and safer drivers.
