THE family of the lorry driver who was killed in a tragic accident on the M56 near Warrington on Wednesday have issued a tribute to a man they describe as a wonderful husband, father and son.
Tony Sainsbury was the centre of the family and a “hero” to his children.
The statement, issued on behalf of Mrs Lucie Sainsbury and family, reads: “Our family has been left truly devastated by the tragic events.
“Tony was the centre of our family; a hero to his two beautiful children, a wonderful husband and devoted son.
“He embodied everything that was loyal, honest and decent. Every child would wish for a father like him, every wife a husband like him, every mother a son just like him.
“Everybody who knew him, knew how lucky they were to have somebody like him in their lives and his love, generosity and kindness will always remain with us and see us through this seemingly impossible time – for at the end of a storm is a golden sky.”
Mr Sainsbury died when his heavy lorry plunged from a bridge on the A56 onto the M56 below at Junction 11, Preston Brook.
Police say it is a miracle no-one was killed or injured in the crash.
Rush hour traffic was held up for hours as both the motorway and the A56 were closed.
Police would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has any other information, about it. They should contact police on 0845 458 0000.
