A WOMAN who has served on High Legh Parish Council for 10 years received a prestigious community award.
Claire Hay, currently vice chairman of the council, was honoured at the Cheshire Rural Women’s Awards at a ceremony in Winsford, which recognises those who have work for rural communities in Cheshire.
She was nominated by parish council clerk Doreen Walker, through CHALC (Cheshire Association of Local Councils).
Cllr Hay has worked for the parish council for 10 years, serving as chairman three times. In 2007 she helped raise more than £40,000 to save and redevelop the local children’s play area – which was officially opened by Tatton MP George Osborne.
She said: “I have also obtained funding to install and replace village notice boards, both in the village and outlying areas so all the community can access village information.
“I am currently working with a fellow councillor on the redevelopment of our website to ensure even more access to information about our parish and speed up communications in our rural community.”
Cllr Hay, who has two children and also works as a teacher, was presented with her award by chairman of CHALC Stuart Hulse.
