Wild cat back in captivity

THE rare African Genet which went on the rampage in the Woolston area of Warrington earlier this week, apparently killing a number of chickens, has been captured.
A householder in the Manchester Road area set a trap for the nocturnal, cat-like animal and managed to catch it unharmed.
It will now be returned to its owner.
Police and the RSPCA were alerted after the animal, a member of the civet family, escaped some days ago. It’s spotted fur and long, bushy ringed tail made it somewhat conspicuous – but its speed made it difficult to catch. Eventually a fox trap was used to catch it.
A police spokeswoman said the animal was not regarded as dangerous to humans.
The genet is normally found in Africa, South West Europe and Arabia and is slightly larger than a normal, domestic cat.
