Re-cycling education centre

A NEW education centre dedicated to educating residents of all ages about waste and recycling in Warrington will officially open on October 12.
Based at Gatewarth Community Recycling Centre, the new initiative is unique to the area and boasts interactive displays showing how waste of all kinds is recycled and reused.
Visitors to the centre will find out about the UK’s rubbish problem, learn about the wide variety of materials that can be recycled and how to make a real difference by reducing waste and recycling more at home. The centre provides an ideal trip for local school and community groups.
Cllr David Keane, the borough council’s executive member for environment and public protection, said: “This new facility will help educate even more residents on the importance of reducing and recycling waste as we continue to strive to move away from sending waste to landfill.
“The Gatewarth Community Recycling Centre is a fantastic facility and it recycles over 75 per cent of the waste that is dumped at the site.
“The more we in Warrington recycle through these sites or through the blue and green bins at home, the more we can help the environment and save valuable resources.”
The centre has been developed with support from two contractors – Environmental Waste Controls (EWC) who have provided a converted re-used shipping container to house the centre and DHL Enviro Solutions have provided funding and support in fitting out the centre.

  1. And well done to Phil Chadwick and the waste management and recyling team he is a part of for their vison and hard work in developing this centre.

  2. Our Council simply does not understand that they have no money. Why do we need this facility and at what cost. Again, despite funding from Contractors, it is the Council Tax Payer that will be left holding this baby. Again, WBC treat residents as simpletons. We are quite aware of the need to re-cycle and don’t need this type of reminding facility which is not in ann easily reachable site. Who is to staff this centre and, again, at what cost?

  3. I'm a resident and a council tax payer and I don't feel like I am being treated like a simplton because of this. I think it sounds really good. I agree that it is not in an easily reachable place for some but I bet some younsters especially would find a day out at the tip great fun and very interesting when they see what it is all about. Yes 'we' are all aware of the need to recyle and yes kids probably know that bottles, tins, paper etc goes in the blue bin and gets taken away but they may not really know why or what happens to all the items next and what they can 'become'. In fact some adults probably don't know either. Like I said it sounds good… so do you want to come and have a look with me as I guess I couldn't really book an organised visit just for myself 🙂
