Dunn says sorry as Town hit for six!

AFTER the highs of Tuesday night’s F.A Cup victory at Bamber Bridge Warrington Town crashed back down to earth as they were hammered 6-0 at lowly Garforth Town, causing manager Joey Dunn to apologise to fans for his side’s poor performance.
It was only the second win of the season for the Yorkshire outfit as they leap frogged Warrington in the league table.
Dunn, who apologised to fans on the official club website after the game, stuck to the same starting eleven who performed so well at Bamber Bridge, but the team looked a shadow of the side which won 4-0 on Tuesday.
There was little to choose between the two teams in the first half although Garforth had the better of the few chances, with one effort bouncing off the cross bar.
Even when Christopher Howarth headed home on the stroke of half-time there was little indication of what was to follow in a shambolic second half showing.
Lawrance Hunter made it 2-0 for the home side on 56 minutes directly from a free kick, with the Warrington defence standing still as the referee appeared to blow his whistle after the kick was taken. As the Town defence and keeper Chris Oldfield all stood still the ball went into the net.
Things went from bad to worse for Town as Sam Finley saw red for dissent with a second bookable offence after earlier being booked for a rash challenge.
On 70 minutes it was game over for 10 man Town when Hunter grabbed his second and then Adam Priestley twice on 72 and 82 and finally Paul Walker on 85, rubbed salt into Warrington’s wounds.
Dunn now has to rally his troops for a tricky trip to Runcorn Linnets in the Cheshire Cup on Tuesday evening followed by a trip to Bradford Park Avenue from the Premier Division in the FA Cup next Saturday.
After the game Dunn (pictured right) issued an apology to supporters on the club’s official website.
Commenting on the heaviest defeat of the season he said: “I want to apologise to everyone connected with Warrington Town Football Club who travelled up to Garforth Town and witnessed the game. The players that played for the club today are all hurting and I made my feeling’s known to them after the game. Let’s just say it was a very quiet journey home.
“As manager of Warrington Town Football Club, I take full responsibility for today’s game, and every other game the club plays. Today just wasn’t good enough all round.”
He continued: “Looking at the positive side of the game we created chances but on the day Garforth were by far the better side as the scoreline shows. During every season, every team takes a beating and today, it was our turn. Arsenal took it the other week against Manchester United, We took ours last season in the cup against AFC Fylde and this season’s beating was done today. That’s history now and the team are fully focused on getting this club up the league.”
Looking into the future ahead, Joey added: “The support every week is great from the fans that come and cheer the team and the club on. Behind the players, we are a strong unit and together we all work hard to provide the supporters with a good football team to watch and be proud of. All fans have proud moments and some not so proud, today is the latter.
“Going forward, the supporters are vital to this football club and the backing they give us as a group of players is great. We now go on into the future and continue with this long season and look for cup progression at Runcorn Linnets on Tuesday.”
