WARRINGTON’S Golden Square multi-storey car park will be temporarily closed later this month to allow work to start on improving access from Midland Way.
Due to start before the end of the month and end in mid-November, the works will see the widening of the access ramp, changes to the traffic signal layout and carriageway resurfacing.
The borough council has developed the proposals in partnership with Golden Square to address a number of congestion and safety concerns raised by commuters and regular users of the car park.
Various temporary traffic restrictions will be put in place to allow the works to be safely undertaken which will include the temporary closure of the multi-storey car park.
Alternative car parking locations will be signed on site.
The majority of works will be carried out during normal working hours, though certain aspects of the works will be undertaken at night to minimise disruption to weekday traffic.
A spokesman said: “Where possible the council will endeavour to minimise the effect on the road network. This will not always be possible, the council therefore apologises for any inconvenience caused while undertaking the improvement works.”
The scheme will be funded by monies secured in the original planning agreement.

Shut for a month and a half due to access problems, only a couple of years after being built??? So which genious at the Highways Department signed off on the original plans then?
It was always a stupid idea to have a car park exiting via traffic lights onto a main road, to say nothing of replacing a carpark with multiple exits by another with only one.
