Speed sign warning for motorists

A NEW vehicle activated mobile speed sign will help police tackle the problem of speeding motorists in the Birchwood area of Warrington.
The £2,500 sign has been purchased by Birchwood Town Council in response to complaints from residents about speeding traffic in the area.
Chairman Cllr Russ Bowden (pictured with the new sign) said the Town Council had always shared the concerns of local residents over the problem of speeding, particularly in residential areas.
Over the last two years they had worked in close partnership with the police to identify the main problem areas in the ward and to campaign for speed enforcement measures.
While the campaign had been successful, the Town Council also decided to make an investment of £2,500 to provide the mobile speed sign for dedicated deployment in Birchwood by local police officers.
It will be used regularly across Birchwood, in addition to speed enforcement cameras which will continue to be used in the area.
Cllr Bowden added: “We are pleased to continue our excellent work with Cheshire Police on the problem of speeding. This new speed sign will be used in Birchwood as another tool in the battle against speeding drivers.
“The Council is committed to making our streets safe for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users and we are confident that this new equipment will make a real difference to road safety here in Birchwood”.

  1. It’s screening to make drivers coming from the Birchwood direction slow down as they approach the Crab Lane roundabout. I don’t think it’s a waste of money at all – there have been plenty of crashes there, so if this helps reduce that problem then fair enough!

  2. It will cause more accidents as drivers will be slamming on their brakes thanks to this eye sore. Well if they can afford that then how about resurfacing the road near there and fill the pot holes too.

  3. I have seen the police out with this new gadget. It does slow things down – the car in front was doing about 50 and slammed his brakes on when he saw them! We could do with one of these over in Penketh
