WARRINGTON could enjoy an economic benefit of £2.3 million if it is chosen to be a host town for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
This is the conclusion of an independent report following the Rugby Football League’s visit to the town to assess its bid.
Jan Souness, chairman of the team leading Warrington’s bid said: “We have always known that the 2013 Rugby World Cup coming to Warrington would be a great boost to the town.
“This report shows the economic benefits it will bring to local businesses with up to 20,000 extra spectators and visitors for some games – it will be a great opportunity to show all that Warrington has to offer.”
Borough council leader Terry O’Neill (right) said: “As this report shows, it would be a tremendous boost to our town’s economy if we are successful in our bid to become a host town for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
“I would urge everyone to back the bid by texting their support or signing up to our e-campaign today.”
