WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat has been nominated to sit on a Parliamentary committee which is to scrutinise Government plans to overhaul the financial system and prevent another banking crash.
The joint committee of both Houses of Parliament will scrutinise the draft bill “A new approach to financial regulation: the blueprint for reform” which was published by the Treasury last month, before it is formally presented to Parliament and begins its passage into law.”
Mr Mowat (pictured) will sit alongside former Chief Secretary to the Treasury David Laws, former Chief Whip Nick Brown, former Social Security Secretary Peter Lilley and Lord McFall, former chairman of the Commons’ Treasury Select Committee and Baroness Wheatcroft, who was editor of the Wall Street Journal in Europe.
He said: “Banking reform is possibly the most important and far-reaching reform that this Government has to deal with.
“Gordon Brown and Ed Balls designed a system of financial regulation which completely and utterly failed to prevent a banking crisis and it needs root and branch reform.
“I am extremely honoured to have been nominated to sit alongside such an eminent group of people and I am determined to ensure that ordinary savers are protected from the casino-style risk-taking of investment bankers.”
