Blueprint for better road system

A PLAN designed to help the borough council improve its performance on street lighting, roads and bridges has been approved by Town Hall bosses.
Members of the council’s executive board have given their blessing to Transport Asset Management Plan (TAMP) for the town.
It should help ensure the effective maintenance of the approximate £1.1 billion worth of transport assets Warrington is home to.
The TAMP, which applies until 2014, will enable the council to improve its practices and decisions relating to transport assets and will play a key role in the success of the redevelopment of the town centre.
Funding and investment options are currently being explored with a view to prioritising street lighting and the condition of the roads which were seriously affected by the severe winters of the past two years.
Cllr Linda Dirir, (pictured) the council’s executive member for highways, transportation and climate change, said: “We know the condition of our roads and the local environment is really important to our residents which is why this council is making improving street lighting, road conditions and fixing potholes a top priority.
“The Transport Asset Management Plan will help us achieve this challenging task and help ensure good maintenance of our roads, footpaths and lighting to increase their durability and save on costs in the long-term.”
Warrington has 607 miles of highway network, more than 26,000 streetlights and 207 bridges and other structures on publicly maintained highways.

  1. Whilst they are doing that, they could give some thought to improving the general flow of traffic by getting rid of the problems at Bridge Foot and Bank Quay.

  2. Forget the Plans, committees, discussions and Strategies. Just give us a couple of blokes with a barrow full of tarmac, actually filling in the potholes. IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!!

  3. Give us a ring road like Runcorn and stop building houses with no access roads and stop building single track roads everywhere and put dual carriageways in….look at Cromwell Avenue for an example!

  4. Not a clue! Roads that were built by the Development Corporation in the 70’s need to be dualled. The land is there. Why do we need yet another Plan, further discussion and Strategies? All we need is action. We elected the Councillors tom take this action but they seem unable to act. Road that were built as Expressway to get traffic through quickly are now being restricted to 50mph. The clue surely is in the name “Expressway”. God save us from these infidels!
