War hero's grave desecrated

POLICE at Warrington have appealed for help from the public after thieves desecrated the grave of a local soldier killed in Afghanistan.
Some time over the weekend, heartless thieves stole items from the grave of Fusilier Simon Annis, (pictured) the former Culcheth High School pupil who was killed in action in August 2009.
Among the items taken from the grave at Hollins Green Cemetery were three large poppy wreaths, more than 20 miniature crosses and two large, mahogany crosses.
The thefts have left members of Simon’s family devastated.
Simon and a colleague were killed trying to help their commanding officer.
He had married only six months previously.
Sergeant Lee Cooper said: “The items stolen are of little monetary value, but their sentimental worth is immeasurable. The family of Simon have been left devastated at this callous and insensitive act.
“The miniature crosses were inscribed with personal messages from Simon’s comrades, family and friends, and cannot be replaced.”
Anyone with any information regarding this incident should contact Risley Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0845 458 0000 quoting incident 492 10.04.11 or alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  1. I would like to say that I am suprised, but a dispicable act like this has no excuse. Whatever anyone’s personal views of the army or the problems in Afghanistan. This lad has done his duty, what he was paid to do. He paid the ultimate sacrifice. Was brought home back to his love one’s and laid to rest in peace.

He should be left alone in peace.

The sign of a coward, attacking what cannot fight back. If you know something about where the item are, get in touch or leave them at any responsible place so that they can be returned.
