Healthier takeaway food

CURRY? Fish and chips? Burger? It’s a dilemma many people have faced on a Friday night.
But most have also wished they could enjoy a takeaway without worrying about its effect on their waistline.
Now Warrington’s new and improved food award, Healthier Together, has been launched to help take the guilt out of a takeaway treat.
The existing Warrington Food Award has been going strong for three years, encouraging businesses to prove they meet stringent food hygiene standards and offer healthier options.
But to get the new Healthier Together Award, food outlets will have to go further – by actually reducing the salt, sugar and saturated fat content of the food they prepare, catering for people with special dietary requirements and adopting environmentally friendly practices.
The new award will start with takeaways in the Orford Lane neighbourhood.
Cllr Mike Biggin, the borough council’s executive member for Public Protection, said: “The aim of the new award is not to stop people enjoying a takeaway, it’s to make sure that when they do the food is healthier because it has less salt, sugar and fat.
The new award will be launched in April. Over the next few months it will be expanded to other businesses and the rest of the borough. For more information, call 01925 442260.

  1. If people have to work longer and receive a minimal pension, they won’t be able to afford takeaways.

Nothing wrong with treating yourself once a week with food that is bad for you.

Can’t we have any pleasures anymore?
