Scaffolding firm wins plans battle

PLANNING bosses at Warrington have a given their seal of approval to a scaffolding firm – despite protests from nearby residents that round-the-clock heavy traffic visiting the company is making their lives a misery.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee were warned that if they rejected the retrospective application to change the use of the site, it could revert to an earlier use which would result in even more traffic.
The scheme involves the former Forward Works, in Bridge Lane, Woolston.
It was opposed by residents of Bridge Road and Cliftonville Road, who claimed they had to endure intolerable noise, vibration and loss of privacy, they claim.
The site can now be officially use for the storage of scaffolding.
Officers told the committee the site had been used for industrial purposes for well over 10 years and if the new application was refused would revert to its previous lawful use
Residents claimed the site was previously occupied by a single firm – WH Capper Ltd.
It now housed the same firm along with the scaffolding firm, a portable building hire firm and six small mixed use units.
When portable buildings were being moved they took up the full width of Bridge Lane which is also access to another industrial estate, Centre 21.
Sixteen years ago, the borough council said it had recognised for many years the need for an alternative access to the site, but had never been able to provide one.
Members of the planning committee visited the site before reaching a decision.
