Wolves' youngsters may get chance

WARRINGTON youngsters Tyrone McCarthy and Rhys Evans may be given a chance when the Wolves travel to the Stobart Stadium this Friday to take on St Helens, kick off 8pm.
The Stobart has been a good hunting ground for Tony Smith and his men, winning their last two Carnegie Challenge Cup semi finals against Wigan and Catalans, but this season it is the home of St Helens while their new ground is being built.
This will be Saints first home league fixture at their new venue and the Wolves will be looking to build on last week’s win against Hull KR and get a long-awaited win over their rivals.
Young forward McCarthy, who has had few first team chances since winning a challenge cup medal against Huddersfield in 2009 and young back Evans, have both been drafted into the 19 man squad and Smith says they may get their chance on Friday.
“A lot will depend on other conditions, including the weather. But I have every confidence in Tyrone and Rhys and they have earned their chance for a first team call up.”
Smith says seeing his team perform well is “more important than the result!”
Meanwhile St Helens have been struggling with injuries but Smith says it is irrelevant as their youngsters can “easily step up to the mark because they have quality in depth.”
