Warning over scam photo shoots

TRADING Standards chiefs are warning Warrington residents to be wary when dealing with photographic studios or people offering photo shoots.
A number of local people have contacted the department with complaints.
These ranged from people who have been hit by unexpected charges through to others unhappy with the service they have received.
Trading Standards say people should not do business with photographic studios who call them out of the blue.
Anyone who wants photographs taking should shop around, be fully aware of terms and conditions – and should not disclose their bank details.
Some people have cancelled appointments only to find the money has been debited from their accounts.
Others have been stunned at the cost of prints – particularly when the initial photo shoot has been offered free or at a discounted rate.
Cllr Mike Biggin, the borough council’s executive member for public protection said: “Local consumers should be particularly wary of traders offering ‘free’ photo shoots which may hide high costs, and also of any adverts which do not name the company. We would urge people to exercise the usual caution when dealing with photographic companies as they would with other traders.”
Anyone with concerns should call Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
