DETECTIVES investigating the death of Carl Chadwick at Warrington suspect that robbery may have been a motive for his murder.
Carl was found dead at his flat on Grasmere Avenue, Orford, on Saturday January 29. He had been stabbed and strangled.
The 40-year-old, (pictured) known in the local community as “Dancing Carl” was widely known to keep cash at his home rather than in a bank account, and it suspected that several thousand pounds may have been taken from his flat following his murder.
Police have been building up a picture of Carl’s last movements and have CCTV footage of him at a local shop from Tuesday January 18.. This is 11 days before he was found dead.
Detective Inspector Nigel Wenham who is leading the investigation said: “This CCTV is the last confirmed sighting I have of Carl and I believe he may have died within a couple of days of it being taken. I am keen to speak to anyone who saw or spoke to Carl around this time as you could have vital information for my investigation.
“I still have a period of 11 days from Tuesday January 18 until Saturday January 29 that I am trying to establish the movements and confirm sightings of Carl.
“Carl’s family and the community are deeply shocked by his murder, everyone finds it hard to believe that anyone could harm him, he was clearly very well liked by everyone we speak to.
“I am convinced that the answers I am seeking lie in the community. I would urge people to ask themselves if they have noticed anyone behaving differently lately, or if someone suddenly appears to have more money and their spending habits have recently changed?
“Your information could be crucial to finding out who was responsible for the brutal murder of Carl. No matter how small or insignificant you think the information may be, tell me, tell the police and let us decide.”
Neighbourhood Inspector Andy Ross said: “Carl’s death has shocked the community as he was a well known man and liked by a lot of people. If anyone has any concerns or information then please talk to police so we can find the people responsible. I would also like to take this opportunity to urge people not to keep large amounts of cash at home as it can make you a potential target to would-be criminals.”
A 32 -year-old man and 29-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and have been bailed until Tuesday 8th March pending further inquiries.
