IMPROVEMENTS to a busy Warrington junction have been approved following a public consultation and will start in May.
Work at the A49 Winwick Road/Long Lane junction is aimed at reducing congestion and improving safety.
Local people responded positively to plans following a consultation exercise carried out earlier this year.
The next stage, which should be completed by November next year, will be to design the new junction layout which will take on board comments made during the consultation. It will also include agreeing diversion works with the utility companies, carrying out safety and cycle audits on the scheme and inviting tenders for the work.
Works to complete the new junction on A49 for the new Orford Park Project will be carried out in conjunction with the A49 Winwick Road/Long Lane junction improvement to minimise disruption along this busy route.

Call me cynical but with all the recent examples of badly thought out or implements so called improvements then i cannot see this working.
How can a public consulation have been carried out BEFORE the proposed layout of the junction has even been designed???? What exactly were people consulted on? And who was actually consulted? This is a junction on one of Warrington’s busiest roads, and affects far more people than just those living in the immediate vicinity! And finally, why do the supposed traffic management experts in our highways department need to consult the public on the best way to keep traffic flowing? Surely it’s their job to KNOW that.
