TO mark World AIDS Day people in Warrington who are at risk of the HIV virus are being urged to ensure they are tested.
Warrington Borough Council revealed the town is the best in the North West for the prevention and testing of blood borne viruses.
Pathways to Recovery – CRI (Crime Reduction Initiatives) is the drug service provider in Warrington and its performance is measured on all aspects of harm reduction and blood borne viruses.
Figures from Warrington Drug and Alcohol Action Team show that CRI has achieved 100 per cent success in three areas – clients being offered a Hepatitis HBV Test, being offered a course of Hep B vaccinations and referrals to specialist treatment for clients testing positive for Hep C.
A council spokesperson said those at risk of HIV infection should be tested as soon as possible, as the earlier someone is diagnosed the more successful their treatment is likely to be.
All Genito Urinary Medicine (GUM) clinics offer testing, together with confidential advice, counselling and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases including HIV. The clinic’s number at Warrington is 01925 662476.
An event to mark World AIDS Day is being held at the YMCA in Warrington today (Friday) from 1pm.
