A TALK about working in Afghanistan was given to students at a Warrington college.
Jenny Blinkhorn, director for education at the Aga Khan Foundation in Afghanistan, took time out of a busy schedule to speak to Priestley College students.
Topics for discussion included the difficulties of working in a war-torn environment, security, aid versus trade and the armed forces. She also gave an overview of the country in general including its structure, its people and their way of life.
Students came from a range of backgrounds including World Development, Languages and Politics. All enjoyed the talk, before Jenny returned to Afghanistan the following day – where she will be based until April.
Youngsters were given a fresh insight into the country which differed from its media portrayal. They also learned how education can make a difference to the people’s lives.
Jenny said: “The students seemed really interested in what I had to say and asked some good questions. It is also always good to give a fresh insight into the country which need not be defined in people’s minds by just war.”
