A SAFETY campaign at a Warrington college has seen a 20 per cent reduction in accidents.
Students are being urged to “Think Twice” before undertaking potentially dangerous activities like drilling or operating machinery.
Warrington Collegiate has formed a partnership with The Vocational College, Liverpool, which has significantly reduced the number of on-campus accidents and is encouraging safer practice in colleges around the North West.
The Think Twice campaign encourages students in vocational training to think before carrying out activities, such as using electrical equipment which is potentially dangerous.
The campaign has proved to be a success in Warrington, with a 20 per cent decrease in accidents.
Both colleges were nominated for a Partnership Award at the recent Institution of Occupational Safety and Health Awards.
The campaign is being shared with schools and colleges in the region and includes talks, safety films and posters.
Gary Lindsey, health and safety officer at Warrington Collegiate, said: “The campaign has been a great success and to see such a significant decrease in accidents is a great accomplishment. We are really pleased the students are becoming more aware of the importance of health and safety and thinking before they act.
“I am very proud to have been able to share our experience and knowledge with other schools and hope the campaign will continue to help students.”
