Wizards continue fine form

WARRINGTON Wizards continued their fine start to the season with a comprehensive 52-18 local derby victory over Liverpool Buccaneers in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National at Wilderspool Stadium to keep themselves at the top of the table.
Despite being reduced to twelve men five minutes into the second half following the harsh dismissal of substitute Billy Maunder for alleged kicking, the Wizards ran in a total of ten tries to outclass a very spirited Liverpool side who to their credit kept going for the full eighty minutes.
The Man of the Match was awarded to Wizards hooker Wez Lawton. He was very well supported by Jono Smith, Anthony Braide and Graham Healey.
Try scorers for the Wizards were: Jono Smith 2, Alan Reddecliff 1, Wez Lawton 2, Warren Ayres 1, Chris Campbell 1, Darren Forshaw 1 and Danny Shaw 2. Warren Ayres added six conversions.
After the game Head Coach Chris Campbell said, “I thought the lads played very well in patches but we need to play for the full eighty minutes. We can see the work we are putting in at training is starting to pay off but know there are areas for us to work on. Our attacking play was awesome at times with our rampant forwards setting a great platform for our speedy backs to exploit. We now need to focus on our game at Dewsbury Celtic next Saturday which we know will be very tough. We have two training sessions to prepare the lads and will make sure that we turn up at Dewsbury fully focussed and ready to go out and try and make it four from four.”
Team:
Chris Campbell, Graham Healey, Danny Shaw, Matt Taylor, Darren Forshaw, Ian Stephenson, Warren Ayres, Nick Braide, Wez Lawton, Matt Clarke, Jono Smith, Anthony Braide, Alan Reddecliff.
Subs: Billy Maunder, Shaun Gilmour, Chris Mellor, Carl Leach.
