TWO Warrington projects have benefited from more than £80,000 funding following successful bids to the Landfill Communities Fund.
Walton Gardens has received £50,000 to improve the children’s play area while Woolston Methodist Church has received £32,000 to re-roof the church hall.
This brings the total number of projects supported by WREN in Warrington and Halton during since 1999 to 227 totalling over £7.8 million in funding.
The money is generated by Waste Recycling Group Ltd (WRG) Landfill operations throughout the UK via the Landfill Communities Fund. Projects applying for grants from WREN need to be located with 10 miles of a WRG landfill site and are assessed locally, by a panel of experts all of whom either live and/or work in Cheshire, Halton or Warrington.
Peter Cox, Managing Director of WREN explained: “Halton and Warrington is an important area of operations for WREN and I am pleased to see that we are able to continue to support important projects that make a real difference to the lives of people in the local community. I am really pleased that we have been able to provide significant support to communities in the area and look forward to funding more good quality projects in the future.”
Richard Smith, Project Manager added: “We are able to fund a wide variety of community projects from play areas and skate parks to village halls and all communities in Warrington and Halton are able to apply. I am hopeful that good applications demonstrating community need and support will continue to come in during 2010 and have dedicated additional time to assisting groups in the area.”
The next deadline for applications to WREN is June 30 2010 and community groups are being encouraged to come forward with applications for capital projects throughout 2010. WREN staff are happy to give support and advice to anyone thinking of making an application. For further information please see www.wren.org.uk or phone 01953 717165.
