POLICE at Warrington have established that the human remains discovered on the banks of the Mersey at Warrington are those of a woman.
Investigations are now continuing to see if the woman can be identified.
Workmen discovered the remains early yesterday morning. At first it was thought the skeletal remains were those of an animal but a detailed examination by forensic experts show they were human.
Police spent all day at the site, off Knutsford Road, close to its junction with Miller Street.
It is still not known how long the remains have been lying on the bank – or if they could have been washed them from further along the river.
Pictured are police forensic officers at the scene.
