In for a penny, in for a £!

A CHALLENGE to collect 100 pennies each was taken on by a Stockton Heath Brownie Pack – and between them they collected 9,521 pennies for charity.
The challenge was part of a badge to celebrate the centenary of The Girl Guide Association and was carried out over three weeks.
The total included over £33 in pennies and five pence pieces from one generous donor.
The girls collected their pennies by doing jobs around the house, donating their pocket money and collecting from relatives. Two of the Brownies collected more than £10 each.
At a meeting they voted and decided to donate the money to Claire House children’s hospice.
Melanie Clayton from the hospice visited the group to thank them and talk about the charity’s work. She visited a later meeting and presented the pack with a certificate in recognition of their hard work.
