Free recipes for kidney sufferers

TV CHEF Lawrence Keogh is offering free recipes to help people in Warrington who suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease.
The star of BBC TV show “Saturday Kitchen” has created a cookbook called “Rediscovering Food and Flavours” along with four collectable recipe cards, specifically for people who have to follow a restricted diet.
Recipes include Garlic and Chilli Prawns, Spice Baked Salmon with Spelt and Malvern Pudding. There are a mixture of main meals, starters, desserts and a selection of healthy cereals.
More than 380 people in Warrington are on a waiting list for a kidney transplant and hundreds more are affected by the disease. CKD patients need to follow a low phosphate diet and take note of the amount of salt, sugar and fat that can be consumed.
Lawrence was inspired to help after he had a kidney transplant at the age of 35. Now he’s joined forces with renal dietician Diane Green to develop recipes ensuring the ingredients used offer the most nutritious choices available.
He said: “I know the restrictions kidney disease puts on your diet, it’s dull and very frustrating. I’ve developed the cookbook and the recipe cards to bring an element of fun back into eating, with dishes that are simple to produce and perfect for all the family.
“Working closely with Diane, I have made sure the best quality ingredients are used to ensure CKD sufferers are getting the best possible dietary needs and have made an effort to move away from bland low phosphate diets.
People in Warrington affected by Chronic Kidney Disease can pick up a free copy of the cook book and recipe cards by contacting a renal dietician at their local health care provider.

I cook for an 89 year old with kidney problems who has been told he must not eat anything with potassium in it. Have been to bookshops in Cambridge to no avail. Is your book available anywhere else? With thanks
