A NEW partnership project between the Warrington Wolves Foundation and Thorn Cross Young Offenders Institute has been given the go ahead by the BIG Lottery Fund.
The Award for £128,000 will go towards a Sports Leaders Officer, equipment and nationally recognised qualifications.
The project will give 110 young men from Thorn Cross the opportunity to complete a health and sports programme over a two-year period. The project will include nationally recognised qualifications in Sports Leadership, Referring, First Aid and Health Mentoring.
Participants who will be aged between 18 and 25 will develop and learn new skills such as: communication, organisation, planning and delivery, as well as enhancing confidence and self-esteem.
Wolves Foundation Director, Neil Kelly, said: “We are delighted to have received the funding for this project, and to be working in partnership with Thorn Cross YOI. We hope to make positive changes for these young men and to equip them with work/life skills for their release.”
Head of Learning & Skills at Thorn Cross YOI, John Platt, said: “We are delighted to be part of this exciting partnership with the Wolves Foundation. This funding will be used to enhance the learning experience for the young offenders at Thorn Cross and assist them in engaging with the community through sports and mentoring skills.”
The project will launch in May 2010. Further information can be found at www.wolvesfoundation.com
