Two hour waste of time

13

POLICE, fire and ambulance services stood by for two and-a-half hours early today as a woman threatenend to jump into the Mersey at Warrington.
It was the second time this month the woman had threatened to jump into the river from the Victoria Park Suspension Bridge around 2am.
Fire crews from as far away as Knutsford were sent to the scene as police attemped to “talk down” the woman – believed to be in her early 20s. An inflatable boat was made ready for use if required for a rescue from the river.
But eventually the woman agreed to come down from the bridge – as she had on the earlier occasion. It is understood she was then arrested.
A witness of the incident said: “It has to be said that this was a waste of time and public money. On the last occasion, the woman was admitted to hospital but on this occasion she was locked up.”
It is understood the woman is not believed to be suffering from any mental illness.

  1. I don’t think it a waste of time. I think its a job well done by some members of the services that have to step in when other services are clearly failing. this poor girl has issues that are not being addressed by the correct people, therefore it leads to this. in fact I find this report offensive.. would the so called “FIRE SPOKESMAN” like to be advising the ten police under investigation in the Fiona Pilkington and daughter Francecca Hardwick case on wastes of time. this girl is only in her 20s so to me still a kid who needs help and this PRAT!! who doesnt deserve his job should be SACKED immeadiately.

  2. Just like to agree with ‘richiepoo’ and also where are Social Services, and well done to the rescue services for saving a life, this woman obviously needs help, sooner the better.

  3. I understand the lady was admitted to hospital after her last escapade and, after undergoing the appropriate tests, was deemed NOT to be suffering from any mental illness. As such she was discharged.

  4. Yep, push her in, get her in the boat….. all over in 5 minutes. She isn’t mentally ill, just an attention seeker by all accounts. Eric, I agree with your analysis of Warrington Eye to a tee

  5. Whether she’s genuinely distressed, or attention seeking or has done this as some kind of hoax, she definately has a problem, judging by some of the remarks on here and sad lack of compassion, she is not alone!

  6. even being an attention seeker in such a dramatic way is clear evidence of mental illness or some other underlying distress factor to anyone with an ounce of intelligence. Imagine this is your daughter “attention seeking” in this way and then see if you still feel like pushing her in. and actually I’m not very liberal, I have no tolerance for people with no tolerance.

  7. Well, richiepoo, imagine your daughter perishing in a house fire while the fire brigade and ambulance are tied up on the banks of the Mersey attending to this attention seeker, and see if you still feel the same!

  8. Sian Corrigan, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service on

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service would like to formally state that we would never class an incident such as this as a ‘waste of time’. The quotes originally published in this article were not from an official fire and rescue service source. With two fatalities in Cheshire waters last year we take any incidents on and close to our waterways extremely seriously.

  9. Thank you Sian for putting the record straight – I can’t believe the lack of compassion being shown by some people on this page – just hope they or a member of their family never needs such help. They’re probably the same people who would walk past someone obviously in distress on the street…..

  10. So emanon you think you should maybe go for the job of deciding which calls the services should respond too and which would be a waste of time. thankfully as stated by the rep from fire and rescue, everything is taken seriously. It now poses the question of who did say “this was a total waste of time” previously reported as a fire service spokesperson, now seems to have been changed to “A witness of the incident said: “It has to be said that this was a waste of time and public money. On the last occasion, the woman was admitted to hospital but on this occasion she was locked up.””….yet the article headline still reads “Two hour “waste of time””
