Helping over fifties find work

A NEW project inspired by the classic film The Lavender Hill Mob has been set up in Warrington to help unemployed over 50s find work.
The Lavender Hill Project, run by Warrington Council for Voluntary Services (CVS), is looking at ways to help people into work and to support them.
It will provide information on help and advice available, and support ranging from volunteering opportunities to debt counselling and relationship advice.
Those eligible for the project must be over 50, resident in the town and legally entitled to work, unemployed or serving redundancy and wanting to return to paid work.
CVS chief executive Nigel Bacon said: “Yes it does have echoes of the classic film, The Lavender Hill Mob, quite deliberately.
“In the film a 50-something bank manager is made redundant and decides to take control of the situation and make a new life by robbing a bank. We condone the initiative – but not the action!”
The project will also offer information on courses, such as computer classes, and health advice.
Nigel said the reason or length of unemployment is immaterial, and it does not matter whether or not people have qualifications or what type of work they have been doing.
Further information about the project and an initial interview can be arranged by contacting Nigel on [email protected] or by telephoning 01925 246880.
