Waste firm wants to carry on tipping

A WASTE disposal company is seeking planning consent to extend tipping operations on a landfill site at Warrington for 12 months – little more than a year after winning permission for a similar extension.
Collier Industrial Waste want to carry on using the site, at Fire Tree Farm and Moss Hall Farm, off Moss Side Lane, Rixton, until January 26 next year.

January, the borough council’s development control committee approved a 12-month extension of the tip life.
At that time, members were told the company wanted the extra year to give it time to prepare an application to extend the life of the tip for another six years, although there is no mention of this in a report to the committee to be considered next week.
If this were granted, the capacity of the site would be increased by 750,000 cubic metres but the company have indicated they would reduce the capacity on an adjoining landfill site they own on land off Moat Lane, Rixton.
Officers are recommending the committee approve the new application to enable the two sites to continue operations under a valid planning consent until next January.
They will then bring applications for both sites to the committee indicating the long term land use implications for the Rixton area.
One resident has lodged objections on the grounds of environmental nuisance and inconvenience to residents caused by traffic, noise, smells, litter and impact on the Rixton Clay Pits Nature Reserve.
But officers say if the application was refused, the operator would be able to appeal and continue with operations while the appeal was determined.
