Town back on track

WARRINGTON Town erased the memory of their midweek mauling at Mossley with a convincing 3-0 victory over Prescot Cables, despite playing most of the second half with 10 men.
First half goals from Jimmy McCarthy and Gavin Salmon put Town two up by the break but central defender Levi Kennedy saw red for the second week running shortly after the break.
Kenendy, who saw red in the 2-1 defeat at Skelmersdale last Saturday, again appeared to be on the receiving end of a bad decision as he tackled from behind on the edge of the box, with the referee ruling he was the last line of defence.
It was backs to the wall for much of the second half as striker Tony Evans was pulled back into a defence already missing the injured Mike Tomlinson and Tom Hardwick.
But Town held out and made sure of all three points when skipper Mick O’Donnell rifled the ball home after Chris Gahgan’s shot was blocked by the keeper.
It was a much improved performance by Town after their 5-0 mauling at Mossley in midweek.
Town’s patched up defence was bolstered by the return of Danny Toone, who saw his first full action for nearly two seasons after a lengthy lay-off through injury, although he had to be substituted late on with cramp.
Warrington now face a tricky trip to promotion chasing Colwyn Bay on Tuesday evening kick off 7.45pm.
Another victory would put 7th placed Town back in the play off race.

Town: Mottram, Hadland, Toone (Kinsey, 81), Kennedy, Grogan, Taylor, McCarthy, O’Donnell (c), Evans, Salmon (Chetcuti, 81), Gahgan (Roberts, 90), subs not used: Brown, Dutton
