Support for faster broadband

SUPERFAST broadband could be rolled out across Warrington by 2017 if Conservative Party plans, backed by local candidate David Mowat, (pictured right) get the go-ahead.
The prospective MP for Warrington South has welcomed proposal to roll out broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps across the town.
Under the new scheme, a Conservative Government would open up BT’s ‘local loop’ monopoly to other telecommunication operators, and review what it feels are unfair business rate rules.
It would investigate the use of sewers and other utility infrastructure to lay broadband cables and allow telegraph poles to be fitted with fibre optic cables, rather than old fashioned copper wire.
All new homes would be capable of receiving superfast broadband through a fibre to the home network.
Money currently allocated to the digital TV national switchover would be redirected to help establish a universal network. After 2012, this money would ensure superfast broadband reaches rural areas.
David Mowat said: “Warrington’s homes and businesses deserve access to the latest 21st Century technology.
“It’s time to end the digital divide and deliver superfast broadband to all parts of the country, including rural areas. Conservatives will open up the BT monopoly and increase competition.”

  1. Don’t know about superfast, fast would be nice a lot of warrington is still restricted to 2mb..nice to know that korea averages 46mb..and we imagine them scooping up rice with straw hats.

  2. More like elasticband, the present rate is not mush better than flicking a piece of paper or letter some distance with the aid of an elastic band! I goin’ to stick to 2nd class stamps, it’s safer! and cheaper!

  3. Well I think my broadband speed is more than adequate and serves it’s current day purpose very well…. so can’t say that I’m that excited about the prospect of 100mbs by 2017… but then again ask me in 2017 and I may have a different view by then as technology will have no doubt moved on. A ‘chip’ in palm or maybe the brain and no need for laptops, pc’s or mobiles anymore 🙂
