Pupils learn leadership skills

PUPILS from a Warrington school will learn about leadership, volunteering and diversity this Easter as part of an international programme to motivate young people to reach their potential.
St Thomas Boteler High School is the UK force behind the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Development Programme (HOBY UK) for the fourth year in a row.
The scheme invites Year 10 pupils from schools across the North West to take part in a seminar where different exercises help them develop skills and confidence.
Over 90 pupils have taken part in the seminar so far and the school is offering 30 places to young people from across the region this year – 10 of those will be from St Thomas Boteler.
Headteacher John Sharples travelled to the US to take part in a HOBY seminar in 2006 and was so impressed he decided to bring the concept back to the UK.
He believes the Year 10 pupils who take part in the course see amazing benefits. He said: “This is the fourth seminar HOBY UK has organised and over 90 students have benefitted from the experience so far.
“They have really enjoyed themselves and in many cases, parents and schools have reported that the impact has been transformational.”
This year’s four day residential seminar will take place at the University of Chester from April 8 until April 11 and costs £295.
