Students' close shave for charity

TWO Warrington students who will soon visit Mozambique to help in an aid mission have gone that extra mile in their fund raising attempts.
Jack Duggan, aged 19 and 17-year-old Jonathan Speed offered to have their heads shaved for charity and in the process raised more than £1,500.
It was a considerable sacrifice, for both had been cultivating their flowing locks for some time – and in Jack’s case it was his first trim in eight years.
Their hair may have taken years to grow but it disappeared in literally seconds and its demise was certainly welcomed by the Habitat for Humanity charity.
Priestley College, where the pair are students, have joined forces with the organisation and this summer will travel to Mozambique to help build homes for children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic.
Said Jack: “We really wanted to make a difference and this was a fun way of doing it.
“In the build up to the trip we have learned a great deal about the country and its chequered past from civil wars to natural disasters. It’s when you learn about these things, that it’s only natural to try and do something positive to help.”
Jack and Jonathan will be among a party of students from the college going on the trip – and all are busy raising money to fund the expedition.
