Setback for animal charity

AN animal charity’s plan to move into new, purpose-built accommodation have been thrown into disarray by planners.
Warrington’s development control committee has refused permission for a cattery on a former works site off Elizabeth Drive, Padgate.
The application was submitted by Cats Protection, who currently operate from a cattery in Slutchers Lane, Warrington
It involved a two-storey office building with a range of single-storey outbuildings providing 52 pens for cats.
Planning officers recommended the scheme be approved, but the committee voted to refuse after hearing of concerns over noise, smells, loss of privacy, traffic, flood protection and loss of trees.
Officers said although the site was in a predominantly residential area, the change of use from light industry to a cattery was considered acceptable.
Three nearby residents made representations – two objecting and one indicating they had no objections.
